This line graph shows the number of sockeye salmon returning to the Smith and Rivers Inlets, B.C. from 1970 to 2008. From 1970 to 1992 the number of returns was variable, reaching a low of fewer than 50,000 in 1984 and a peak of approximately 950,000 in 1992. After 1992 the number of returns declined drastically. From 1999 on, returns were extremely low, with a slight increase in 2002 and 2003 and then a decline again. In 2008 approximately 10,000 salmon returned to the inlets.
